In Random Recast, we find new uses for ordinary things. This week: Party streamers.treasured_editions, flickr
A peony in bloom is one of those sights that make life worth living. Too bad their vase life is well...abbreviated. But you can get craft a convincing faux version out of party streamers, like the ones above from etsy seller Treasured Editions. (Yep, those gorgeous peonies above are fake, I was surprised, too.)
Simply cut a long length of pale pink streamer, then cut one side into a scallop. Next, using a needle threaded with embroidery floss, gather the non-scalloped side of the streamer using a running stitch. Once you reach the end of your streamer, knot the thread and even out the gathers. To finish, coil the gathered streamer (occasionally adding a dab of glue) until you get a nice, full "peony."
