Curbspotting - Dresser Makeover

Filed under:

The next time you go curbspotting for potential furniture pieces to makeover, brake for a dresser. With a little paint and wood strips, you can recreate the look of a high-end Greek key dresser for a fraction of the price.

Though one of the most common curbspotting finds, dressers are the Jan Brady of the furniture world: Plain, plain and plain. Though us decor-savvy types are the rare sort who can get worked up over furnishings, I've never been particularly excited to see a dresser. Equally snooze-worthy? The usual makeover suggestions. You know, add a coat of paint and some new pulls. It's usually pretty, but rarely ends up in a showstopping piece.

But this dresser makeover by Bri Morris is something completely different. She took a super-cheap Ikea find and added Greek key motif detailing made with simple wood strips. (Yes, there was also a color change.) Look how the motif enhances the vertical lines of the piece...isn't that amazing? And it looks so high end. Impressive. You can see more of the makeover on Bri's blog, Me You and a Weiner. (The blog name refers to a dog called Timmy.)
